Driaan Claassen

Driaan Claassen is a renowned South African sculptor whose work is influenced by the exploration of the human psyche through intricate, thought-provoking sculptures. Born in Johannesburg in 1991, Driaan began his artistic career with an early interest in 3D animation, which was soon followed by an apprenticeship with Otto du Plessis, a renowned artist and founder of the Bronze Age Foundry. This foundational experience helped him develop a unique approach that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to create works that are both intellectually and visually captivating.

Driaan works with a variety of materials, including wood, wire and bronze, which he carefully selects for their ability to convey complex psychological and philosophical themes. His sculptures are characterised by a seamless integration of material innovation and psychological depth, reflecting his deep fascination with concepts of consciousness, order and chaos. His artistic process often involves a careful combination of ancient techniques and cutting-edge technology. The results are works that challenge the viewer to reflect on the intricate interplay between the material world and the inner workings of the mind.
