Standing Songs

Wellington, Neuseeland
2026

Anton Hart

Description:

This artwork was first presented at the Aotearoa Art Fair earlier this year and introduces a striking body of work centered around five new Standing Songs—totemic sculptures crafted from black-coated sand.

Created in collaboration with poet Jenny Bornholdt, the sculptures combine sculptural form with poetic language. Short, carefully composed phrases are cast into vertical structures that stand like physical poems: grounded, quiet, and deeply resonant.

The collection also includes Stone, a wall-mounted circular sculpture that marks a new direction in the artist’s practice. Featuring a four-line poem by Jenny Bornholdt, the text revolves around a circular axis, inviting viewers to discover new meanings with every perspective. Playful yet thoughtful, Stone explores how language can move through sculptural space rather than simply exist within it.
