With their carefully sculpted surfaces, rival chess pieces offer a unique tactile experience for opponents, as their texture varies between rippled and smooth. 
 
The board’s sloped silhouette creates an undulating landscape upon which pieces face-off from opposing hills; before descending down into the battlefield below.
