MONOLITH

MONOLITH is a sculptural lighting project designed by Ralf Gloudemans that explores the transformation of digital craftsmanship into physical form. Beginning as a simple geometric block in virtual reality, the object is gradually carved, stretched and reshaped, capturing the transition from structure to gesture. The result is a pendant light that balances expressive design with architectural function.

To bring this vision into reality, each pendant was manufactured by Sandhelden using our proprietary mineral-based material SH-F01. Our additive manufacturing process enables the production of complex geometries while preserving the subtle details and tactile qualities of the original digital sculpture. Every piece features the characteristic material texture that defines SH-F01 and gives each object its own unique character.

Installed at Restaurant De Houtloods, the MONOLITH pendants become an integral part of the interior architecture. During the day, they appear as sculptural objects suspended within the space; in the evening, they create a warm, intimate atmosphere that enhances the dining experience.

MONOLITH demonstrates how advanced manufacturing technologies can translate digital design into durable architectural objects - combining material innovation, craftsmanship and contemporary design.
